Victoria Carpets

Carpet remains one of the simplest ways to add design and comfort to a home. It is a friendly and versatile floor covering offering benefits to your overall living environment. Available in a wide variety of patterns, colours and styles, carpet is easily maintained and adds your unique signature to every room.  Nothing compares to the pleasure of soft and cushioning carpet under your feet.  The softness of the carpet provides a warm and comfortable space.

Carpet is truly climate-effective with insulating properties which keep interiors cooler in summer and warm in winter.  Wool carpet in particular can absorb and release moisture into the air.  This helps keep humidity levels even in a room.   We can supply a superb variety of Victoria Carpets all styles and colours in pure wool, wool blend and synthetic readily available. All the products are premium with innovation in design, manufactured using the most modern yarn mills in Australia.

The best quality products are guaranteed through conforming to both the Carpet Institute if Australia's ACCS grading scheme and ISO 9001:2008 Quality Accreditation.

Environmental Accreditation

Victoria Carpets are adopting the world's best practice by establishing the ISO 14001:2004 Environment Management System.  The certification reassures the customers the delivery of genuine benefits, including the measuring and monitoring of all environmental impacts. Victoria Carpets was the first broadloom carpet manufacturer throughout Australia and New Zealand to have products accredited under the Environmental Classification Scheme (ECS).  The ECS is a voluntary carpet testing scheme administered by the Carpet Institute of Australia.  All Victoria Carpets products are easily identified by the green Environmentally Certified label on samples.

Choosing Your Carpet

Deciding to carpet your home involves contemplation of the overall financial investment and also requires creative consideration - your final choice will be something that you may live with for many years and want to enjoy every day.

Before selecting your carpet you should consider the colour, style and fibre that best suit your tastes.  Equally important is to consider what your lifestyle will demand of the floor covering.     Considering the following factors, it will help ensure that your carpet looks, feels and performs to your expectations.

Colour of the carpet

Colour is one of the most important factors in interior design.  Clever use of colour can create a mood for your home and manipulate the size and overall impression of a room.  Blue and green shades are cool colours that produce serene and calming atmosphere.  Reds and oranges are warm colours and generate energy.  Neutral colours foster a clean backdrop to rooms where features may then be highlighted - such as artwork or furniture and accessories in bolder colours.

Colours can give the illusion of space and distance or warmth and closeness, so it is important you carefully consider the outcome of the colour application of your choice.  Dark colours absorb light, close in a space and make a room feel cosy and intimate whilst softer colours reflect light, open up rooms and create a sense of space.  Only by studying colours in your home you can really be sure what is suitable for you.  The colour of other furnishings in the room as well as the amount of natural light will affect the way you carpet looks. Remember, a whole floor of carpet won't look the same as a small sample.

Carpet Style

Carpets are available in several styles and textures that can form the basis of your decorating place.  Victoria Carpets produces tufted carpets in four distinct styles:

(A) Loop pile:  The carpet is 'looped' and this texture wears well without showing up footprints.  Multilevel loop has a sculptured look, achieved with loops at different heights.  Level loop has loops of uniform length. Textured loop achieves patterns by varying the height and weight of each loop.

(B) Cut pile plush: Cut pile is achieved by cutting the tops of the loops so they stand upright and form an even surface. Plush pile carpets are made of dense and lightly twisted fibre, providing a smooth velvet or velour finish and that luxurious look.

(C) Cut pile twist: Cut pile twist is achieved by cutting the tops of the loops so they stand upright and form an even surface.  A twist uses very highly twisted yarn to achieve a crisp feel and more textured appearance.  This hard wearing texture can minimise tracking and shading.

(D) Cut and loop: Cut loop has a sculptured appearance created by cutting some loops, while leaving others uncut at the same or lower level.  This combination style has sophisticated look and a soft feel.

Carpet fibre

Carpet fibre and weight will determine the quality of your carpet.  The better the fibre the better the carpet. Fibre defines how the carpet looks, feels and performs.  The most common fibre types available are: wool, synthetic and blends of the two.

(A) Wool fibre: Wool sets the standard for all carpet fibres.  Its superiority stems from the complexity of the fibre developed by Mother Nature to protect sheep in all weather conditions.  Wools has great attribute, it feels good and looks fantastic.

(B) Synthetic fibre: Solution Dyed Nylon (SDN) and Polypropylene are used in synthetic carpets.  Each fibre has its advantages, and while both are synthetic, they have similar properties.  SDN is a durable, strong yet flexible fibre that is colourfast and stain resistant as it is appropriately treated. Polypropylene is a fatigue-resistant fibre that is colourfast and inherently stain resistant.  Polypropylene is the cost-effective option over versatile Solution Dyed Nylon.

(C) Blends of wool and synthetic fibre: blending fibres reduces fussing and shedding and it will maintain the carpet's appearance for a long time.  Wool blends offer the beautiful feel and natural look of wool.

Carpet characteristics

Carpet characteristics are not considered as carpet defects or manufacturing faults.

(A) Colour variations: It is normal for carpet to show minor colour variation from the selling sample or variations between production runs.  This is due to carpet being manufactured in batches from dyeing the yarn through to the finished product .  Victoria Carpets has very high standards for achieving consistency in colour.  Colour assessment is also subjective as it depends on the type of light the product is viewed in.  A very useful top to remember: aim to view samples of your choice at the residence or place of installation under as many different light conditions as possible.

(B) Fading: All carpets graded by the ACCS must meet minimum standards for light fastness.  However, carpets, like all other dyed textiles, can fade if regularly exposed to strong direct sunlight. It is recommended to limit the amount of direct sunlight on your carpet through sunlight filters such as blinds, curtains or exterior canopies.

(C) Pile disturbance: Both matting and foot marking or tracking are a flattening of the pile caused by foot traffic in high usage areas and turning points. The pile disturbance is temporary and the pile can be restored by vacuuming.  Placing rugs in heavily used areas will aid in the prevention of tracking and matting.

(D) Permanent pile reversal (shading): Permanent pile reversal is a term used to describe irregular shaped light and dark patches in a cut-pile carpet.  It is commonly known as shading, watermarking, pooling or puddling.  Permanent pile reversal shading is the result of areas of disturbed pile reflecting light differently to the surrounding body of carpet pile. It is permanent and cannot be removed or lessened by vacuuming or brushing of the pile. Years of research have failed to find a reason to explain the underlying cause and accordingly, it is considered an industry phenomenon, not a manufacturing defect.

(E) Shedding: This describes the small fibres the carpet sheds in the first few weeks or months of use.  It is more common in cut pile and in wool carpets.  As the carpet settles the condition becomes less noticeable to the point where the release of these fibres stops.  Regular vacuuming usually resolves this problem.

(F) Fuzzing: Fuzzing appears as fibre particles on the surface of the carpet.  It is the result of fibres that loosen to a certain degree.  Fuzzing is most apparent in areas where feet are shuffled such as under tables and in front of lounge chairs. This can be corrected by a professional carpet cleaner shearing away the fuzzing on the installed carpet.

(G) Maximising the life of your carpet: your carpet will continue to look look and wear well if you follow some simple steps: vacuum regularly (once or twice a week); treat spills as they happen; have your carpets professionally cleaned once every 12 to 24 months to look as new.   Victoria Carpets Products Note: Colour variation may occur between sample and production due to dye lot tolerance.
